The Bruce Clan, 1912

My mother's mother, Margaret Bruce Reed, came to America as a young girl when her parents immigrated from Glasgow, Scotland.

The gentleman seated is my great-grandfather John Galloway Bruce. Standing behind him is his wife Jane Hill Bruce. The two girls are Margaret (my Grandmother) (know as "Peggy") and Jane ("Janie"). The older boy is John ("Jackie") and the baby is David, who is the only of the children to be born in the US.

Of course every good Scottish clan has its tartan.
Here's my mommy decked out in an outfit of the Bruce plaid, standing before the ancestral family claymore (which I bought real cheap from a sword catalog) (okay, it's not ancestral).

The clothing, swatch framing the sword, and clan plaque were found through a catalog called The Scottish Lion.
