USS TRIUMPH NCC-2191 (UPGRADE)

Not long after setting sail on her first deployment, The deficiencies of Triumph's ungainly configuration were taken note of, and plans were undertaken at Oakland Naval Yards to put her through a major upgrade upon her return.

Seen here reporting to Moebius Starbase for her new assignment after upgrade, we can see her new features: The awkward dorsal "neck" supporting the center nacelle has been replaced with a slender pylon to match her lowers; the secondary hull extension has been more elegantly blended into the primary hull; and her much-hated "popsicle stick" main sensor has been discarded in favor of a pair of dual-purpose sensor/deflector dishes in podded housings on the pylons.

Time Period: Star Trek: The original series

Seeing two dreadnoughts in one sector is a rare occurance indeed, but three is unheard of! Gathering at Moebius Starbase and here seen headed out, three titans of the fleet are on their way to a critical diplomatic conference to demonstrate the Federation's most powerful vessels to a potential new member planet seeking protection in a dangerous sector. The freshly updated Triumph leads the formation, with the newer-built USS Themistocles echeloned above and aft, and the old Fedration Class warhorse, USS Dominion below and aft. Triumph's additional fore and aft short-range sensors can be seen on her dorsal pylon.

Triumph testing out her new nacelle configuration, careening through subspace at maximum warp.

Baring her teeth at a planetary target, Triumph uses full phaser power from all three lower dual-turrets to punch through a powerful force field protecting another Orion pirate base on a remote planet. Blasting a hole in the upper atmosphere, the extreme heat and force of the bombardment is disrupting weather patterns in the immediate area.

The esper-triggering effects of the Great Barrier were kept classified by Starfleet after the Enterprise's encounter in 2264, and certainly no one expected the Klingons to be curious enough to launch their own expedition to the edge of the galaxy. So when word reached Starfleet Intelligence that a battlecruiser had ventured out to the rim, Triumph was despatched to intercept. A Klingon ship with even a few crew uplifted to mad, super-powered godlike beings was too huge a threat to ignore, and Triumph had orders to take any action necessary to protect the innocents of the galaxy.

When they arrived and sensors located the D-7, it floated derelict, with all crew dead, atmosphere from the foresection hanging in a cloud, and the aft section enveloped in burning plasma. No one will ever know what happened aboard her, for Triumph received orders to blast er into oblivion.
